NUI, Galway has built up a tradition of excellence in marine research which is a priority research area within the University. The Marine Law and Ocean Policy Centre is a cross-faculty initiative between participants from the Law School, the
Martin Ryan Institute and Trinity College Dublin. The aim of the Centre is to promote the inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary study of the legal, political, economic and social aspects of the ocean, the coastal zone and maritime resources. The Joint Submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf pursuant to Article 76, paragraph 8 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 in respect of the area of the Celtic Sea and the Bay of Biscay is now accessible.
On 25 May 2005, Ireland made a submission through the Secretary-General to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, pursuant to article 76, paragraph 8, of the Convention. It is noted that the Convention entered into force for Ireland on 21 July 1996. The full text of this submission is available here.
